I am often asked to explain the difference between leadership coaching and mentoring.
Leadership coaching and mentoring are two distinct approaches to professional development that can be used to support individuals in their career growth and advancement. While there may be some overlap between these two approaches, there are also some key differences.

Leadership coaching is typically a more structured and formal process that involves working with a coach like me to identify and achieve specific goals related to leadership development. For example I use a variety of techniques and tools to help the individual identify their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for growth, and develop a plan to achieve their goals. The coaching relationship is typically time-limited and focused on achieving specific outcomes.
Mentoring, on the other hand, is a more informal process that involves working with a more experienced individual who can provide guidance and advice on career development and advancement. I offer insights based on my own experiences as an Equity Partner in a City of London law firm and provide feedback on the individual's performance and progress. The mentoring relationship is typically more open-ended and focused on building a long-term relationship based on mutual trust and respect.
While coaching and mentoring are different approaches, both can be valuable for individuals looking to develop their leadership skills and advance their careers. The approach that is most appropriate will depend on the individual's goals, needs, and preferences, as well as the availability of coaches and mentors who can provide support.
